Whether you are old or young, many people are all over the internet constantly on social media. Social media is used everyday whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Online social media has grown all over the world. Although not everyone knows how to use social media all generations have come to embrace the changes social network has brought to our world. These social media websites are mostly teenagers that are drawn into this as they are the largest users of these sites. When using these sites such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, there are both positive and negative effects on the youth. People are so drawn into these sites as they want to keep up with everyone’s lives. Most users spend at least an hour in these popular social media sites each day. That would be 365 hours in a year all wasted on social media. One may ask how spending all that time on the social media sites may have a positive impact on them. “Riley says organisations may want to look at using social media themselves to help employees feel truly connected and positive about their employer” (Reap the benefits of Social media). This is an example of how social media can help new employees (kids who have just graduated and just started their job) stay connected with their employer as they can get updates whenever something is posted. “Athletes and sports programs are constantly experimenting with the usefulness of social media. Many pro athletes have their own Twitter streams or Facebook fan pages, but only a few have figured out how to capture the ever-elusive moneymaker of social media: fan engagement” (Lewis). This quote shows how social media distracts even athletes and can start tension with other teams. Well, social media helps users stay updated with what is happening around the world. This helps the teenagers stay connected and interact with each other even if they are many miles apart. This strengthens their relationship with people even if they finished school and moved to different locations they stay connected and …show more content…
“And it 's no wonder. Cape Girardeau public school students, for example, start learning keyboarding in kindergarten to get them used to technology, curriculum coordinator Theresa Hinkebein said. But she noted kindergartners already know how to operate smartphones and have computers at home” (Campbell). This can help students out tremendously as they will already know how to operate and use technology and be soo much more developed than people who aren’t used to technology. This will give people who know the ins and outs of technology a leverage when it comes to certain jobs that involve technology. Social media users share among themselves day in and day out, giving and receiving information at rapid speeds. “Many people argue that the slang encouraged by social media has a bad effect on student writing. However, social media can help students, especially male high school students, reveal emotions and discuss topics that make their writing more powerful and honest” (Simmons). This information is more than funny random videos/pictures. They share views and opinions, tips, tricks, and even project ideas among students all over the world. This is some very helpful information for students who need help on schoolwork and can easily be helped without a teacher. Their ability to access, analyze, retain, and share information
