A lot of people can’t go 5 minutes without checking Facebook for the latest updates. Cases like these I would consider the person to have what I call “FOMO”, Fear of Missing Out. A study done by CNBC found that 54% of millennials said they experience FOMO if they aren’t checking social networks. The problem I find with social media is the fact that people only share good things about their lives. We constantly feel the need to be perfect and put on a show that’s not completely accurate. This prevents someone from getting to know the real you which can lead to bonds not being fully formed. Most people would rather lay on the couch all day and twiddle with their phone, keeping up with the latest celebrity gossip.
