Bullying has been a huge problem in the school system for years and only recently have people been shining a light on it. The most common form of bullying right now is cyber bullying. Bullying over the internet can cause may cause kids to feel hated and can even lead to suicide. Cyber bullying is an issue that needs to be stopped. People do not understand how many kids are actually bullied online. Statistics say that “over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online” (Hinuja, Popkin). Bullying is a problem that needs to be stopped. Society needs to pay more attention to those that are being bullied online. Because of cyber bullying kids that are being bullied online feel threatened. The Cyber Bullying Research Center states that 1 in 3 teens have experienced cyber threats. Parents do not realize the effects that cyber bullying has on its victims. Many kids first start felling “depressed, sad, angry, and frustrated” (Hinuja, Patchin). These are only the least severe outcomes of cyber bullying. Cyber bullying has the ability of getting into the victims head and making them feel like they don’t know what to do or they may feel like somehow this situation is their fault. Some other outcomes of the effects of cyber bullying are victims starting to not do well in school. They may feel threatened and not want to even show up to school, feeling so depressed. Cyber Bullying Research center states that cyber bullying is linked to low self-esteem. Because of this children could possibly be held back from being successful in life and school. This issue can cause the events that happened to a victim to be stuck in their head for life. Although worst case scenario would be that a victim of cyber bullying feels so worthless that they commit suicide to get away from the problems.
