The Negative Impacts Of Social Media

Social media allows people to stay in contact with each other even if they are too busy to meet with each other. People are always busy whether it 's going to work or taking care of their children, they seem to have less time to meet with their other friends and family members (Koifman, 2013). “Social media allows people to see images of what their friends and family are doing and even gives them the ability to like or comment” (Mitroff, 2015) on these images. Instead of feeling guilty of not making enough time to go see their colleagues and relatives, social media ensures that people still care about and are engrossed in the lives of these people. "Sharing a positive event increased its impact an effect known as capitalization” (Nauert,n.d.). People see images of their friends getting married in their home town and feel elated for them. According to Elliott, Roiser, and Sahakian who are all psychologist "positive words and pictures reduce the risk of depression”. People who view social media as a negative influence on relationships argue that seeing their acquaintances express painful thoughts through social media resulted in negative thoughts about themselves however, studies have discovered that when ones acquaintance expresses painful thoughts through social media one tries to cheer up their friend and provide support for them (Elliott, Roiser, and Sahakian, …show more content…
For example, if someone’s goal is to raise money for "HIV and AIDS awareness " (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, 2015) instead of writing about it in a local newspaper where only people of one’s community would be informed of the cause, if they were to write a post about the cause on “social media millions of people would be likely to read about the cause” (Wagstaff, 2015) ,and more “people would be able to donate” (Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, 2016) . Once I felt overwhelmed with the amount of school work I had to get done and stumbled upon a quote on Instagram that said something along the lines of nothing that is worth having ever comes easy.
