Social Media Adoption Paper

The history of communication media technology has been assessed from the controversial perspective of the benefits versus the negative implications it has on society. There is no doubt that the world has witnessed a long history of technological advent, adoption and use, resulting in the current state of rampant technology media application in the modern society (McQueen, 2003). Technology advancement has taken different forms, which may range from video, to computer-based, internet and now the social media technology. Thus, in the modern society, social media use through the computer and other mobile devices such as cell phones has increased significantly, with 73% of adults currently using some form of social media (Fleck & Johnson-Migalski, 2015). Nevertheless, the major focus of studies on the impact of technology has been its negative impact on society. Most of the studies in this area have cited different positive impacts of the increased adoption and use of technology, such as the expanded opportunities for learning and education, as well as the increased interaction between children and their peers (Hsin, Li & Tsai, 2014). First, one of the solutions to the negative impacts of technology on the new generation is the parental involvement and control (Hicks, 2015). Leaving children and teenagers to learn and use the mobile and the communication media technology on their own is detrimental, because it exposes the children and teenagers to the more negative or increasingly less informative and educative content, as prioritized by the social and digital communication platforms (Murray, 2016).
