1. Prompt 1: How does social referencing work? Can you give an example? When is social referencing useful and when is it not? Why would you not want to use social referencing when responding to a toddler who has just taken a spill? Pg219

Social referencing is when a child responses to a scary situation to see an adult response. An example would be a relate meeting my child in the store and my child looking to me to see how to react. Social referring is useful when calming kids, and warning them of danger. I would not want to use social referring when a child drops a drink because it could cause fear. My facial expression, body language and tone helps them build a cultural scrip on how to respond to a situation. Remaining neutral helps
