Three possible cause of the achievement gap in the US is:
1. The Expectation Gap: Teachers do not think that their students will achieve.
2. The Relationship Gap: The lack of a relationship between teacher and student
3. The Participation Gap: The lack of participation from students because of, but not only a dislike of school

8. In your opinion, which of the possible root causes do you believe society should prioritize in order to close the achievement gap? I think the expectation gap is one society needs to focus on. If the teacher expects great from the students the other two will follow, a relationship will form and participation will increase. But the only that can happen is if the mindset of the teacher is not fixed and they want to have meaningful relationships students. It won’t succeed if it is not authentic

Memphis is the type of city that has continuously been noted in the news for its high crime rate statistics and sometimes its low academic achievements in the metro area. However, in a city that has almost a million people residing in it, higher crime rates can be expected. Ideally, if the schools in Memphis focused more on the success of all of its students as opposed to the children already born with an advantage in life, we’d be able to boast of the virtually lower crime rates. Humbly, I don't allow myself to simply observe the horrors of a somewhat localized and flawed academic system. I submerge myself in helping some students by tutoring in subjects like math and english, because I am aware that not everyone has the same opportunities…

Carol Burris and Kevin Welner argued that school is not to blame for the achievement gap, but to blame the economic conditions . William Mathis argues that achievement gap can’t be solved because of discrimination in school. The three archetypes that exemplify that school can’t close the achievement gap are; lower class students don’t have enough supplies for school, lower class parents don’t encourage their kids, and discrimination in school by teachers, staff, administrators. Three different sources that support the achievement gap between students are two scholarly sources by Romo Harriett and Gary Evans…

In 2014, Atkinson (2010), states that school districts had already been given huge tasks by House of Representatives and the senate to close the achievement gap between the minority and the white students. Districts and schools were no longer allowed to solely rely on the achievement of high performing students to establish failure or success (Ladson-Billings, 2006). The administration dictates districts and schools to disaggregate test information for all subgroups and students within the school and make sure that each group is able to meet the required standard (Norman et al., 2001). The issue of achievement gap is a mystifying one for districts and schools within the United States and several institutions are faced with the problem of reducing…

Many parents have tried hard to get their child the best quality of education money can but them, but it is not always guaranteed. The “hidden curriculum”, quality of educators, and charter schools are the ones to blame. Many would assume that every school is alike and teach the same curriculum, but Jean Anyon has proved otherwise. In ‘Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work’, Anyon went to different socially ranking schools such as the “working class” school and even as high as “executive elite”.…
