The social issue of social justice is shown in the two novels, The Hunger Games and The Giver. In The Hunger Games, social justice is shown by the distribution of wealth in their society. This is the result of the harsh and cruel government in their society. The people in the Districts are very different compared to the Capitol people. They are very poor while the Capitol people enjoys all the riches. Katniss described in her mind, “I take a sip of the hot, sweet, creamy liquid and a shudder runs through me.” This line from the novel clearly explains how Katniss has never tried a hot chocolate. Today in the modern world, people could buy a cup of hot chocolate for a relatively low price. In The Hunger Games, Katniss never tried any of it and did not even recognize it. They should have the right to have wealth and not left to starve. In the book, The Giver, the ability to make choices is taken away from the people. They don’t have any choices to make in their lives. They just have to follow strict orders from the Committee of Elders. In the book, it stated, “Two children-one male, one female-to each family unit.” This line shows how each family unit doesn’t even have the choice to have how many children they want. Jonas wants to bring the ability to pick choices back to the people. However, strict rules makes this almost impossible to accomplish.
