There are two of them who actually suffer a change along the story, I am talking about the siblings Sheila and Eric. Eric in the first place seems to be an outsider in the family, he seems to be an alcohol addict and it looks like he doesn't care about anyhing, but later on Eric starts to asking some questions to his father in order to defy him “what about war?”and this question not only shows that Eric is not a total idiot, but also revealed another facet of him, in fact he cares about Political issues. During the play when the Inspectors enters; Eric will criticize her father when he recognizes that he had dismissed Eva “It isn't if you can't go and work somewhere elses” at the scene takes place Eric's critic become more and more strong when Gerald tries to justify Berling's action saying “ you couldn't have done anything else” Eric rapidly answers” He could. We are members of one body. We are responsible for each other[...]”. Apart from showing the guilty of the family because the chain of events, with his words Inspector Goole shows his clear position about Social issues and of course here is where the reader realizes that this play, it is not only a detective story, but also a play in which author's experiences about war, and his studies on Social and political issues comes to light in the final part of this monologue when he says “And I tell you that the time will soon come when, if men will not learn the lesson, then they will be taught in fire and blood and anguish.Good night” Lastly, to show that not all Berlings clean their hands and not all of them are a lost cause here is Sheila as a representative of the new generation and new thoughts holder saying “You mustn’t try to build up a

Priestley presents the Inspector as an intelligent and dominant character, who refuses to let Mr Birling intimidate him. He uses him as a vessel to promote his views on social inequality. In contrast, Mr Birling is portrayed as an ignorant capitalist hypocrite, who is greatly opposed to new ideas like socialism. The increasing conflict and tension through their opposing ideologies, together with the author’s clever use of form, structure and language, enhances Priestley’s message to the audience about the importance of social responsibility and the need to create a better future.…

Script Analysis: The Given Circumstances and Background Story In the well-made play Better Living by George F Walker, the world of the play is shaped around the effect of Tom, the family’s absent Father returning after many years of financial and emotional despair. Through the mechanical analysis the background story shows the struggle of working class families and how the background story shapes the characters prior to the curtains opening that also later affects their decisions in the play. On the other hand, a key element found through the given circumstances was how the mother Nora’s main goal is to keep the family intact. However, keeping the family intact in this play seems that Nora’s goal is only keeping the family from moving forward in their lives.…

Through-out the play she becomes more and more mature as she realises that her parents are not as lovely and proper as they make out. Her behaviour contrasts with her parents; she is aware of her…

This is intended to make people rethink their current political standpoint and reconsider the labour party for power. In contrast to this, is the Inspector who is clearly a socialist. Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel, North and South, sets the values of Southern England against those of the North in order to examine the principles of Victorian life through its public and private spheres. Gaskell’s characters inhabit a world that is complicated by social change, and through Margaret Hale, the novel’s protagonist, Gaskell is able to compare these spheres and consider the ways in which they become connected. In her article, “The Female Visitor and the Marriage of Classes in Gaskell’s North and South” Dorice Williams Elliott identifies Margaret’s role in the novel as that of a mediator who bridges the public and private spheres. She believes Margaret’s participation in the “social conversations, industrial debates and ideologies of…
