Social Injustice In A Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens

Many people have been discussing the life altering question, how far have we come since the 1700s? A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens accurately describes social injustice during the French Revolution. One’s social class define one’s role and importance in society. Such classes were defined as: the rich, working class, and the poor. The working class along with the poor were looked down upon by the rich, inferior to them. The rich had all of the access to medicine, doctors, and were able to sway politicians and their beliefs, whereas, the poor and the working class often died from lack of medicine, poor quality housing, and not enough food. One does not need to present a card stating one’s socioeconomic status in order to get attention. Furthermore, as of 2010, every U.S. citizen is not only entitled to health insurance, the law states one must have it. In almost all of Europe access to better healthcare is free for everyone. Moreover, the improvement in human rights in first world countries has also improved from the 1700s, as freedom of speech is law. Each and every citizen has the right to speak their mind regardless of topic. This ensures that if one were in need of medical attention and equipment, they would be able to receive it. This especially enables the poor to have life saving medicine available to them, and not just the rich.
