Social Inequality Research Paper

Social inequality is the lifestyle of unequal opportunities for different social positions or statuses within a group or society. Social inequality contains repeated traits of unequal distributions of goods, wealth, and punishments that are most likely tied to race, gender, and class. The most important dimensions consist of income, wealth, power, occupational prestige, schooling, ancestry, and race or ethnicity. Some contributions to social inequality include : structural inequalities of dominant social institutions, the justice system, education, housing, and employment .
There are two types of ways to measure social inequality such as inequality of condition or inequality of opportunities. Inequality of condition consists of unequal distribution of income, goods, and wealth. An example is housing situations. The homeless are living in housing projects sitting at the bottom of the hierarchy, while the wealthy families live in million dollar mansions and sit at the top of the hierarchy. They are structural conditions , ideological supports , and social reforms. They study how things like educational goals were achieved, wealth, poverty, occupations, and power had lead to social inequality between an individual and a group of people. They also examine how formal laws, public policies, and dominant values lead to social inequality and look for possible ways to sustain it. Sociologists view society as a stratification system, meaning society ranks people into categories based on hierarchy of power which would mean some groups will have a greater status, power, and wealth opposed to the other groups. They search for ways to find out how income, honor/respect, wealth, and property had lead to forms of social inequality that were often
