Inequalities are present in every society. Social stratification is essential to society. Social inequality is the central characteristic of practically all social encounters and a person’s spot in the stratification system is the supreme predictor of his or her behavior, attitudes, and possibly life chances. Social stratification carries over from generation to generation. You can look at how parents pass their social position onto their children to see that stratification is a trait of societies rather than individuals. Take the Titanic, for example, there is strong correlation with social inequality and the way people lived back then.
