The hierarchy is also shown through young Scout’s view. Largely, people are evaluated and separated into five different levels. The top of the hierarchy is always the place for Mr. Finch. Ordinary white people lie right below Mr. Finch and Cunninghams were below them. Ewells were treated almost the same as black people but they were proud of themselves by being white. Black people were even below Ewells and there was a unbreakable line between Ewells and black people. To white people, black people were just liars, negroes, or people who always need white people’s help. However, Tom Robinson’s trial became the first step to break the unbreakable line. To repeat my thesis statement, social hierarchy has existed everywhere, and everywhen although the form of the hierarchy is different depend on the historical background and the situation. If so, what would be a good example of social hierarchy that exists nowadays? It could be the outward appearance, how smart you are, or how famous and good you are in the field that you are working in. However, most of people would answer that they are being socially classified with their money. Money seems like it can make every wish come true in this world. However, social hierarchy only makes other mockingbirds as Boo Radley and black people. To make the fair and equal world, we should not build up vertical relationship like social hierarchy, but we should try to help everyone located in the same level.
