The different methods mainly consists of referrals, court mandates, and signing up at the open house recruitment held in the beginning of the school year. The referral are usually from different Deans of Schools, in which the Dean and the Instructors select different youth that they feel are at risk and are in need of BUILD’s program support. The court mandates comes from the judicial system, in which the judge or state attorney mandates selected delinquents to participant or face other consequences set by the courts. Open house recruitment is mainly for BUILD’s afterschool program, in which parents and teachers can sign up or recommend their children or students they feel are in need of the academic support that the BUILD program offers. In addition, although the teacher and parents can sign up and recommend students and their children, the BUILD staff has the final approval and they must also have parental consent. This act of service that BUILD exhibits also shows how their organization is dedicated in upholding ethical principles and the NASW code of Ethic. The juvenile justice system court agency deals directly with BUILD in the area of referrals. Many of the youth participants at BUILD are either referral or mandated by the court, or are referral to the program by BUILD staff. The act of referring from the Juvenile Justice System to the BUILD organization can also be viewed as a resource, because it gives the youth participant an alternative option besides being in jail. In addition, many of the youth at BUILD are also referred to by their Dean and Instructors from different Chicago Public School. In the act of collaborating with the Chicago Public School system, the BUILD organization and CPS are also using each other’s resources to help improve their youth’s performance. The relationships that the BUILD organization has with DCFS is an ethical one. BUILD uses DCFS as a resource and also because it is mandated to do so. If BUILD staff notices any acts of harm or self-harm amongst their participants they must report this information immediately by law. Although BUILD is mandated to report any incident of this nature, this relationship with DCFS is very resourceful, especially when their youth participant are in any kind of harm and the BUILD staff feels useless in helping out. Another network that is very resourceful to the BUILD
