If they are living in poverty, they do not receive many of the vital things needed in order to thrive. Although some students who are born into poverty thrive, many do not. Many of the issues that poverty has on student’s education, are very harmful. The domain that I will be discussing is the Social-Emotional Domain. The Social-emotional domain is defined as the many modifications that occur in emotions, self-concept, motivation, social relationships, and moral reasoning and behavior. This domain can be associated with the effects of poverty. This is because, when a child is born into a poverty lifestyle, that child has many emotions. Also, there could be little to no self-motivation and motivation from the parent. Being born in a family that suffers from poverty, means that the parent figure is often extremely busy. This can cause a lack of social relationships and a lack of good behavior. The theory that will be discussed is Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory. This is the idea that all development takes place in social settings and is therefore influenced by social forces. When a child is born into a poverty lifestyle, there is normally no time for the parent to take the student into different situations. In a family that is economically stable, there are fieldtrips to the zoo, and trips to the park. In a family that lives in poverty, there are little resources to take the children to the zoo, or to the park.
