According to Algernon Austin, “former director of the Economic Policy Institute’s Program on Race, Ethnicity, and the Economy (PREE) Millions of African Americans live in communities that lack access to good jobs and good schools and suffer from high crime rates. African American adults are about twice as likely to be unemployed as whites, black students lag their white peers in educational attainment and achievement, and African American communities tend to have higher than average crime rates. Most Black males, with two parent homes inspire to be like their father when they become adults. Unfortunately, most young Black youth are not seeing many Black older role models. Some of the Black role models that are they are seeing are negative. Majority of Black communities is riddled with drug dealers, drug users, gunfire, liquor stores, guys hanging on the corner, funeral homes and churches. Seeing this on every day, can create hostility and depression. This could trigger a negative reaction in a way that Black youth could grow up becoming drug dealers, drug users or alcoholics. Or, it could trigger a positive reaction in a way that Black youth will want to do good at home, in school and in the community. The positive reaction will promote employment that could contribute to a positive lifestyle. Being unemployed could destroy some family dynamics. Most Black females, who are at home, paying all of the bills, will put the Black male out if they are unemployed. Social agencies are designed to separate Black families in way that Black Fathers or Black males are not allowed in their homes or their benefits that they receive will be cut. Black communities need resources that will contribute to Black families obtaining employment. Majority of the jobs had outsourced to other countries where the labor is cheap. This left Blacks without jobs and it put them in situations where most Blacks were loss their homes. Jobs leaving the community could be detrimental to Black neighborhoods because it leaves abandon lots and infrastructures. This is usually followed by crime and the loss of hope and stability in the community. After one employer leave a community, another one usually follows. The social ecological framework looks at this as being a part of the “Other large societal factors include the health, economic, educational and social policies that help to maintain economic or social inequalities between groups in society” (CDC, 2015).
Theoretical model Social-Ecology is a framework that is designed to look at the outer limits that affect an individual. It is broad and can be difficult to apply if research of the framework is not done. It was difficult to apply this framework at the levels that were mentioned because one have to take into consideration the family dynamics, community dynamics and self.
