Social Drink Music Essay

The song mainly takes about the social aspect of alcohol. Specifically how alcohols effects lower inhibitions and make for fun as well as embarrassing moments. I choose this song as I felt it was an accurate representation of how alcohol is viewed in our society. Most of the time, drinking occurs in a social context, either in a bar with friends or at a party, which is depicted in the song video. Drinking in these situations is considered normal in our society. Plus, drinking while having a good time is a reason why many people y tie alcohol and feeling good together subconsciously, which is probably why many people continue to use alcohol recreationally. The song speaks to the primary reason why most people like to drink which is alcohol’s …show more content…
Although it does mention how alcohol can “ make you believe any lie”( that you are only a social drink and that you do not have a problem or your happy) or can help you up or make you fall( fall into addiction, loss of quality of life) it is easy to see through the way the song is structured that those negative are weighed against the positives much in the same way that people minimize alcohol effect in our culture. This very reason is why alcohol is still the most commonly used and accepted drug in our culture. Moreover this is what making drinking potentially addictive, that it can make you feel better despite circumstances in your life being affected by it negatively ( getting “fired from work”). And to deal with the negative outcomes just pick up a bottle of something from “Milwaukee, Lynchburg and Bordeaux France”. Alcohol is personified in this song which is not uncommon in the way most people speak about drug use especially those recovering from addiction; I believe this song accurately depicts alcohol. In that the power of alcohol lies in its ability to tap into an individual’s desires and fears, and manifest itself their minds in ways that will make them feel weak and helpless to its strength. It can be a friend but it can also be a

While this genre of music contains a lot of screaming, the messages are far from “scary”. This song acts as a wakeup call to those in today’s society who live their lives day to day without any concern for those who are struggling, whether emotionally, physically, or both. One of the first verses in the song discusses how if a man knew about the real world and how people behave, “we could have saved him” in his time of need. If this claim is true, it goes to show how America is not an accepting society, and this man has no help in his life because of that fact. Due to these…

Composing song or poetry is a simple form of artistic expression. Through song and poem words are converted to form an image that expresses feelings and emotions only by a very small amount of words. These artists have done this because putting down words on paper generated by emotions going through one’s head is a way of re-living the past and remembering the overwhelming emotions they grapple with throughout their lives. Poet Michelle Williams states that “…. humans have always grappled with overwhelming emotions.…

On the 28 of March, my friend/classmate Orela Anani and I went to go see UNIVERSES' The Party People Salon performance. I was excited to see this show since it would be the first time I saw a performance in The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center as a University of Maryland student. When I first walked into the venue, Kogod Theater, I was shocked it was not what I expected (which was a large auditorium performance hall) it was a small dark room.…

Which is true, but there are some musicals thought to have changed the way society sees things. Is it possible these musicals influenced the minds of their audiences? The term alcoholism has been misused over the years as a vague, poorly understood and most often morally flavoured term. In various media outlets such as film, music and television, alcohol is often associated with success, physical attractiveness, romance, and sociability. Very often, the media sidesteps negative repercussions of substance abuse. This can influence individuals to have a stronger desire to drink as they have an attitude towards alcohol that is more favourable. As a result, alcoholism has been ranked as the most harmful drug compared to others (Nutt 2012).…

In the past two decades in UK, the types of drinks have been developing constantly, from hot to cold, from solid to liquid, even including Smoothies drinks. In 2009, Smoothies the share of market was 437 million pounds, although juice which output is almost 4.3 billion still plays a major role in drinks market. However, from 2009 to 2013,the annual average consumption growth of Smoothies was 23.1% far more than 9.1% in juice marketing. Innocent Drinks as the company just established at last 20 years is dominating in Smoothies market, and Indrak (2008) states that Innocent drinks “now boasts a £100 million turnover and mantle of number one smoothie brand in its home nation”. By saying this, the speaker is saying that she is leaving him for his own good, so that he can remember who he is, seeing as the man in the song is believed to be an alcoholic, which is why the woman is leaving him, she is doing this so that he will be able to reflect on his decisions to choose alcohol over his partner, and eventually pick himself back up. In line eight of the same stanza, the speaker states that, “We’re only deceiving ourselves” (Evanescence, 2006). By saying this she is making it clear that she was not happy in the relationship, and that the two of them are deceiving themselves and allowing themselves to continue to be in a state of denial by trying to stay in a relationship where clearly neither one of them is happy. This is further shown in line twenty-five in stanza six, when she says that, “You only want it ‘cause it’s over, it’s over” (Evanescence, 2006). What she means by this is that the man she is speaking to clearly does not want the relationship to be over, and that he possibly cannot see how much he has been hurting her, but only now that she is ending the relationship does he see how much she means to him, which is, at this time, more than the alcohol, but she does not want anything to do with him anymore since he continuously chose the alcohol over his relationship with her.…

The famous Greek philosopher Plato once said, “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” While music has always been a large part of my life, and I have always harbored a deep respect for musicians, I do not think that I would truly have been able to appreciate this quote until I picked up a guitar for the first time. Growing up, I was surrounded by music, whether it was my brother singing in the room next to me, my mother exposing me to classic country music, or my father blasting Metallica and Led Zeppelin while driving in the car with me, there has not been a day where I have not heard an intoxicating guitar riff or mellifluous ballad.…

    Musical Taste Essay

Scientifically music is the organisation of vibrations. However Blacking(1973) stated `Music is a humanly organised sound`. This quote heavily implies that music is human and because of this it is important to understand, why we acquire our musical taste, is it individual or a social product and why we as humans use music; this is what I will be discussing during this essay. Using theorists like Raphael Nowak, Theodor Adorno, Pierre Bourdieu, D.Hesmonhalgh and Simon Frith during this essay will help answer the key questions and provide a clear insight to why music is important. Taste is defined by the Oxford dictionary as ` A person 's tendency to like or be interested in something.…
