Social Discourse

The purpose of the research was to explore the discourses and constructions which is portrayed by the participant during the semi structured interview. There were several discourses established throughout the FDA analysis. Some of the discourses were happiness, communication, danger, safety, addiction, positivity, addiction. The discourse which will be analysed throughout this is “communication”. In addition, from the data analysis of the semi structured interview, the discourse “communication was presented in the constructions of the discursive object many times throughout the interview. Although, the subject positions with this quote could be feeling great or not being able to communicate efficiently. Social networking sites is constructed as being easy to communicate online, this can be perceived as a positive implication as we are able to gain an understanding that social networking sites are constructed differently with different people who communicate in many different ways. Previous research has indicated that many people communicate online as it doesn't require effort and therefore it is easier, however it is important to study online social networking sites to gain an understanding how different people develop and how communicating online through social networking sites may affect their young development (Subrahmanyam et al 2008). Social networking sites can also be constructed as positivity, this is because the participant is able to communicate with celebrities as well as old friends by using social networking sites such as twitter. Twitter allows individuals to have a conversation online with celebrities which is the main way they aim to communicate with their fans.
