Abortion is a recurring issue especially if it can be looked at as a solution. They 're many effects to these decisions not only to the female but to those around them and the fetus as well. We as a society always refer to the human rights and freedoms to prove our points when it comes to discrimination based on race, religion and beliefs so why can 't we use them for abortion? Because again receiving this procedure should be up to the woman not those around her and others beliefs, it is her body, her lifestyle, her health.
Another example why abortion should be legal is based on crime rates. It has been said that women who do not receive an abortion are more likely to be at risk of having a child that engages in criminal activity. Researchers have found in 1973-76, that for every 1,000 additional abortion there were 380 fewer property crimes, 50 fewer violent crimes and 0.6 fewer murders.
A journal written by a professor, Steven D. states “legalized abortions has contributed significantly to recent crime reductions”. Once abortions became legal in the United States crime rates have decreased immensely.

In conclusion, there are many instances that abortion may not be an option in certain situations, however, I do believe that having it as a choice will help our society greatly. In Ireland abortions are a only allowed under serious circumstances such as rape, and if the pregnancy will create serious problems for the female. Abortion in Canada and the United States is over-used, I do believe that abortion should remain an option and not be completely eliminated, however, it should be monitored and the procedure should only be used for those in serious need.
Although others may disagree, I believe that abortion should remain legal and women should have this option based on medical research, women 's rights and freedoms, crime rate and a woman 's mindset, lifestyle and beliefs because having a child can change someone 's life drastically.
