Compared to the 1920s, the 1930s caused most women to become jobless and looked down upon. The stock market crash and dust bowl that occurred caused people to lose jobs and homes, it affected the families of this time period and caused most to be broken up. The dust bowl was a horrible event during the 1930s because it caused most farmers to not being able to farm since the increase in crops being planted led to over farming and the soil became worse and worse, which caused a drought and led to the dust bowl. A letter from a dust bowl survivor to her family describes the dust bowl, “When we open the door, swirling whirlwinds of soil beat against us unmercifully, and we are glad to go back inside and sit choking on the dirt. Due to both the dust bowl and stock market crash families could no longer support themselves.The Stock Market crash was the biggest event that caused the society to be economically affected. The day of the stock market crash is October 29, 1929. From Elliot V. Bell, a New York Times reporter, he describes the Stock Market on October 24, 1929, “The bottom simply fell out of the market. From all over the country a torrent of selling orders poured onto the floor of the Stock Exchange and there were no buying orders to meet it. Quotations of representative active issues like Steel, Telephone, and Anaconda, began to fall two, three, five, and even ten points between sales.” (Doc E). The Stock Market crash day is known as Black Tuesday. Stock prices fell causing a record 16.4 million shares to be sold anyone who bought on the margin now has
