An example of this is the days of the week. We have become to understand and see the days as “real.” Even our language describes time as not just a verb but also a noun. It has become a part of what we consider reality. If you wake up today and days did not exist there would be no indication if it was Friday or Monday. The social obligations and characteristics that each day has for each individual is what makes it different from other days.
One of the most significant evidence that time is a social construct is that it differs among societies. If time was not a social construct it would be universal and something that is the same in every culture. Our calendar is a perfect example of this evidence. Our society uses numbers in calendars time is split into weeks, rows and columns. One of the ways that societies differ from each other is the relative extent to which their cultures reify either time’s arrow r time’s cycle. Because of Anglo-European society we think of history as an arrow and not as a cycle.
