Why Do People Use Social Media Harmful?

Young adults and many others are typically using social media extremely too much nowadays, and we are so unaware of what is going on outside of their social media world. Which is causing many harmful benefits to ourselves? People will always have their own reasons for why they 're using social media and technology. Of course, there are many great benefits but many more negative effects as well. For example, Steven Johnson stated, “Yes, technology and social media can make the far feel near. But it can also make the near feel very far.” (Johnson 423). It can make oneself feel great, but when in reality it is harming us in the long run. In reading “Social Connections” by Steven Johnson, I believe it shows that if us citizens were to limit the amount of social media and technology use it will give us better communication skills, provide us with more face to face encounters with one another and most importantly keep us from the losing our privacy when using social media. Johnson stated, “It is dividing us more than it is uniting us.” (Johnson 423). Which others strongly disagree with? When people oppose that social media is sabotaging our verbal skills their main argument seems to always be that social networking helps us communicate to the family and friends outside of our household. I do completely agree with this, but that is something we all use social networking for, and when it comes to affecting our personal skill that is something we need to change. Yes, having family or friends outside of the state or even the country it is a great benefit, but once we get to the moment when we have face to face encounters with one another it begins to show the real personality and most importantly the real
