These two sides represent the two different ways of leadership, Democracy and Dictatorship. Ralph represents the Democracy because of his beliefs and values. Ralph wants to be rescued and make shelters for everyone. He believes that everyone should work together to have a successful future. Jack on the other hand, rules only for himself. He rules over everyone such as a Dictator would, he doesn’t care about the casualties, just as long everyone looks up to him as leader. Jack only offers them food and fun, and since they’re a bunch of kids, they don’t understand what kind of situation they are in and want to have fun and not work.
The book, Lord of the Flies, is social commentary over the world around them in the World War II era because of the comparison between the characters and many highly prominent leaders, such as Ralph and Roosevelt in the ways of his thoughts and beliefs, and Jack’s side of the island being compared to a Dictatorship from his endless need to be leader.
