The Outsiders by S.E Hinton demonstrates the gap between different social classes, and how different groups of people see each other based on the lack or abundance of money or simply how they look. Throughout the book S.E Hinton also demonstrates how you can see the truth in people without letting previous opinions based on looks or money interfere. In the beginning of the book Ponyboy says, “ It seemed funny to me that sons - if these girls were any example were just like us” (p.37) This is the first time in the book where a greaser starts to notice the similarities between the greasers and the socials. This also shows how Ponyboy is starting to overcome what he originally thought about socials and how they where nothing like the greasers.
