Social Class In The Kite Runner

In the book “The Kite Runner”by Khaled Hosseini it allows the readers to see the social classes . Amir, Hassan ,Baba, Rahim khan and Assef were the main characters in the book . Amir comes from a high class with a wealthy family while Hassan comes from a lower class with a family that doesn’t have that much money. In Afghanistan people would get punished for their ethnic group, majority being (Sunni Muslims) and the minority being (Shi'a Muslims). The kite runner has much, to do with the issue of social class because of the character's relationship with one another religious belief and physical features . The two main characters are Amir, the narrator of the story and a Pashtun, and Hassan, son of a servant and a Hazara. Amir is a …show more content…
“We left the bodies in the streets, and if their families tried to sneak out to drag them back into their homes, we'd shoot them too. We left them in the streets for days. We left them for the dogs. Dog meat for dogs." (22.24-26).Assef is a cruel and evil guy who never had remorse in his body and loved doing bad stuff. To Assef, Hazaras are little better than animals. His reason for raping Hassan is no sin because. "... there's nothing sinful about teaching a lesson to a disrespectful donkey. "It's just a Hazara..."(chapter 27) He always thought he was higher than everybody and never consider himself as a lower class person. He was a bully, he would always bully Amir and Hassan.. He would mostly bully Hassan because of what his ethnic group is “Afghanistan is the land of Pashtuns. It always has been, always will be. We are the true Afghans, the pure Afghans, not this Flat-Nose here. His people pollute our homeland, our watan. They dirty our blood." He made a sweeping, grandiose gesture with his hands. “Afghanistan for the Pashtuns, I say. That's my vision." (44). Assef would always talk about Hassan physical features and his ethnic group, he would try to put Hassan down, but Hassan would always stand up for himself and
