Social Class In A Knight's Tale

Where a person is from effects everyday life. It is your social class and your rank to the rest of the world. Many are also prejudice when it comes to someone else’s social status. Women were mostly seen as objects, and anyone other than a white male were seen as comical and ignorant. “A Knight’s Tale” is a movie loosely based off of Chaucer’s Canterbury tales. In the movie along with the tales there are remarks on people from all of English society. The main character in “A Knight’s Tale” is William; a young man born into the lower class. Williams’s father was aware of how his social class would be taken in his son’s life. Being from a low social rank there is some things you are obligated and forbidden to do. With this name he fought and wins many jousting tournaments. He comes across another knight named Adhemar who wants the same lady Jocelyn. After a tournament William finds himself in his hometown Cheapside. He returns to visit his now blind father living alone in the same home. During the reunion he is discovered by Adhemar who tells authorities of his false identity. Because he has lied and only high social class and nobility can be knights, he is placed in the pillory. Just as his friends can no longer defend him from the crowd, Prince Edwards emerges. He announces Williams’s dedication to him reflects the ability to inspire others. He also states that he is from a long ancient line of nobility, but he will not be asked questions on that. Prince Edward then knights him as Sir William and sets him free. Adhemar is now furious and during the final tournament cheats with a sharpened lance. Adhemar seriously injures William who is losing by two, he had to knock Adhemar completely off to win. After being completely stripped of his armor, making sure his father and Jocelyn are there he tells his name charging towards Adhemar. He knocks him completely off the horse winning the
