Lewis et al., (2011) suggests upon becoming a counselor, and through a genuine therapeutic alliance, the community might not be doing all that is needed to nourish the health of its members (Lewis et al., 2011). Therefore, consideration is necessary not just for the unique needs of their individual clients but also the collective needs of their clients as a group (Lewis et al., 2001). The potential as a social change agent includes becoming a licensed therapist to have an opportunity to seek positive changes for both clients and myself. In consideration of being a Social change agent, currently working in a school, with a high rate of poverty and children who have emotional and behavioral disorders, the level of change may begin individually and grow in impact. As “it takes a village,” children can have hope for the future, and a “chance to live better lives than the ones led by their parents” (Lewis et al., 2011) as well as be safe and loved.
Another potential, as social change agent, includes the prevention and advocacy for policy change to help victims and survivors of domestic/intimate partner violence and coercive abuse. Advocating for policy changes to help address the desolation of poverty and oppression and provide resources for positive change (Lewis et al., 2011). Additionally, advocating for access educational and mental health and health resources with empowering others with the knowledge that they have a voice. Therefore, in view, it is essential to have and share support and empowerment such that an individual or a group may learn to effectively self-advocate and therefore they will also become an agent of social
