Social and Religious Factors
The social cause of the revolutionary war has been highlighted in the above major causes. Indeed, oppression of the American society and discrimination was evident in the British rule. The government undermined Americans intellects and discriminate upon the natives. They lacked freedom and were economically exploited as well.
About religion and the revolution, there was justification of the war before God. Religion was amoral sanction for rebellion against the British. It changed colonial resistance into a morally justified or righteous cause. Ministers primarily were at the fore front of secular radicalism. They were military chaplains, committee heads, legislature members and organized constitutional conventions. Unfortunately, the revolution also caused a major split in denominations especially between American and British
