Why Do People Go To College Essay

People go to college for many reasons such as, to earn a degree, experience new opportunities, meet new people, and gain new skills. They also go to gain independence. Many different types of people go to college from the poor to the high class and, that plays a big part in a college student’s experience. Economic capital is when the parents or the students have property, cars, stocks, cash, bonds and other. Social capital is the marital status, position/awards, who a person knows, and the family reputation. Economic Capital is when a person has property, stocks, cash, and bonds. Academic Capital is when the parents or the students have a high school diploma, GED, and a bachelor’s degree or higher from a university or college. The marital status of the parents can either be good or bad for the student. Students coming from a single parent household can have a lot stress on them because they may not want to leave their parent alone. Also, their parent may not have a lot of money or they may not have support from both sides of the family. The students whose socioeconomic status is higher are privileged and the students who do not come from much are the humbled students. If the family know some important people, then their kid has some valuable connections that can cause them to be more successful in the transition to college. The humbled students must ask advisors, professors, and friends that went to college for help about the college transition. Awards from the student’s high school can also play a big part on how the student gets into college because that’s what some colleges look for when accepting students.
