In everyday situations such as making friends, people need motivation to want to go and talk to and/or join new groups outside of the one that someone is already a part of. A situation like this that involves music is where one is participating in a band festival, but then also chooses to do solo and ensemble as well (Goldman 124). Doing something like this can be pretty hard for someone that does not have the adequate level of social skills because they would fear the situation of meeting new people. In addition to this, they would also have fears about even trying something like that because they would not be confident enough in just themselves to even get past that point. In some situations, groups may not always have the motivation to follow through with whatever the task at hand is. If the situation or task seemed to be too difficult or impossible, they would not want to continue the task because of the fear of failing. However, as musicians have continued farther and farther into their career, they have found that “. . . Participation in music festivals has a positive emotional impact . . . in that they develop a sense of pride and accomplishment after a good performance” (Gouzouasis and Henderson). Going into a situation not knowing what the outcome may be is tough for many, many people. After repeatedly going through the same situation or type of situation multiple times, people start to build confidence. This confidence then transfers to everything that they do, and when this confidence results in a good outcome, these people feel empowered that they have accomplished such a thing. In conclusion, the skill of being social and working together in groups is the biggest benefit of being in band. Without social skills and knowing how to work together, people would not be able to live life. People would not be able to learn in school, have a job, or even be able to make friends. Why not learn this important skill, especially since it would be through something that everyone hears on a daily basis:
