Researchers attempted to address the question by identifying social anxiety disorder to be prevalent in adolescents. Specifically researchers made correlations between associated social discomfort and avoidance, which led to academic difficulties. While social association disorder is serviced the least in schools, research identified a need for facilitating treatment. Schools are uniquely positioned to address treatment challenges specific to SAD. For one, SAD appears less responsive than other pediatric anxiety disorders to individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) (Ginsburg et al., 2011).
