Look at the back of your shirt, chances are it was made in India, by a child labor. Child labor has been an ongoing dilemma for centuries, due to India’s poverty rate. Child labor won’t stop anytime soon unless India’s government cracks down on the issue. The effects of child labor includes a minimized childhood, physical, mental, emotional, and social well being. In order to fix this problem India needs to create and better enforce child laws that makes attending school mandatory by limiting the amount of time a kid can work during the week, and create laws that benefit the labors.

The child labour business in India brings in millions of dollars each year with huge profit of the sellers. In 2012 the Indian carpet making industry exported “handmade carpets from India worth $306 million. An average hourly wage for carpet workers of $0.21.” (Nashrulla 1). If the average carpet ceo makes around 1 million dollars off their carpets and only pays their workers 0.21 cents per hour and they employ 100 kids thats a lot of money of profit for the CEO. However, in some cases kids only make 0.11 cents per hour, or in extreme cases they don’t get paid at all! The reason the traffickers could do such a thing is because the small amount of money they make is the only type of income they have. Another reason why child labors work in the conditions they work in is because of poverty and many other reasons.
What could be some reasons for child labor in India? Poverty, it’s what they’re taught, they feel its their job, abandonment? All of those answers are correct! The main reason for child labor in India is because of poverty. The parents of the children don’t have enough money to support and feed the kids so they kick the kids out of the house and force the kids to fend for themselves, and growing up they might have seen their brother or sister work as children so they follow in their footsteps, and so in order to survive they go to work just to make enough money to stay
