The main cause teenage drug abuse is peer pressure. That means the relationship with their friends influence them to engage in substance abuse. Most teenagers feel cool or being part of group when they join substance abuse. They would like to maintain good friendship, to become mingle with same group. As a result, these teenagers start off by smoking first, then drinking and eventually get addicted to drugs. Most of these teens that start to misuse drugs do not often think about the negative consequences. The frequent substance abuse by teenagers interferes with their stabilization and reasoning development. Substance abuse leads to problems among teens such as lack of attention. The first effects are seen in the health of substance abusers. Those who become addicted to drugs tend to have addicted personality. It becomes hard for them to stop using drugs. Harmful substances make people lose attention and alertness. They also lose their resistance abilities. Their immunity gets weaker. They become vulnerable to many diseases; some are even as deadly as HIV. One of the genetic aspects to the impact of substance abuse is engaging in unsafe sexual activities. Substance abusers use the same needles from other addicts to inject drugs. The occurrence of using dangerous and risky needles and having sexual intercourse are responsible for getting sexually transmitted diseases like HIV. Some of these substance abusers even live very short
