Society has shaped more of our minds than we think, and for many rightful reasons people have removed themselves from social interaction. Individuals need to pay attention to social isolation, so that more time and effort such as interventions, and energy is placed on social isolation (Olien, par. 21). “Loneliness had doubled: 40 percent of adults in two recent surveys said they were lonely, which’s up from 20 percent in the 1980s” (Olien, par.7. Loneliness had multiplied: 40 percent of grown-ups in two late reviews said they were desolate, which 's up from 20 percent in the 1980s. More individuals in society will be facing epidemics such as loneliness and don’t know where to go for help with their problems, and the numbers from social isolation during this generation has doubled in numbers (Vedantam, par.2). There can be many reasons why an individual may face Social Isolation, but one of the biggest issues that contribute toward social isolation are the pressures of society. Similar to the book Into the Wild when Chris felt like he didn’t fit into society’s norms, which in return made him excluded himself out of society. “McCandless explained to Burres that he’d grown tired of bullhead, tired of punching a clock, tired of the plastic people he worked with, and decided to get the hell out of town” (Krakauer, 43).
