Social Abuse Of Power In Elie Wiesel's Night

From the past to the present, social injustice is still occurring all over the world. Abuse of power, in particular, is a cause of social injustice where someone could take advantage, gain access to information, or manipulate someone with ability to punish them. In current events today and in historical events in the past, people with a position of power has used it in an abusive way. If they’re a high ranked leader or on top of their social class, they’ve had lots of power to misuse. Nazis in Elie Wiesel’s memoir, Night,showed they mistreated and punished prisoners in concentration camps. Steven Avery in the television show, Making a Murderer, began with police officers accusing him guilty of a rape crime, but they knew he was innocent. The current water crisis in Flint, Michigan has contaminated drinking water with lead, leading to public health in danger which the governor knew about. People abusing their power …show more content…
Lead has leading to public health in danger. In Flint, Michigan there was a state of emergency on January 5th, 2016 due to lead in the water supply. Many residents and children of Flint were poisoned by the lead which caused irreversible brain damage and could affect physical health. Governor Richard Snyder was well aware of the lead problem in the city's water system. He didn’t warn or tell any government officials that there was rusting on the pipes. He had power over the state and the city to help people but instead he used it negatively by hurting residents. Snyder decided to misuse his position of being governor and hiding the information about the pipes damaging the water. The governor of Michigan knowing about the contamination of the water lead to the crisis. Governor Richard Snyder had the position of power over Michigan and it was his duty to tell the residents and help them with the water, but instead abused it by dragging it on and causing health
