Personal Narrative: My Experience With Soccer

Great Essays
Ever since the day I was born in 1997, I have been around the game of soccer. My older 4 brothers played soccer and my parents took me to a game on day three of my existence. My father has played soccer since he was a young boy and that is who introduced my siblings and me to the sport. My brothers and I would always play soccer in our backyard when I was young as well as today. When my oldest brother turned nine, he was old enough to play soccer on a recreational team. He continued to play with this recreational team until he was 18. He loved the sport and the teams on which he played. His excitement for the sport rubbed off on me and my other siblings. Each of us looked forward to turning nine years old specifically for this reason. Even though my experience with …show more content…
Once again, I was playing on a recreational team but this time I was playing in the midfield position. Prior to this I played as a defender. We were on our fifth game of the season and our team was undefeated so far. This game would be against the Hobe Sound team. They are a very aggressive team but I had confidence that if my team played hard and persevered we would beat them. Half way through the game the score was tied 1-1. It was half time and my coach, my team, and I were giving constructive criticism about the game. All too soon, the ref blew his whistle for the game to recommence and we took our positions on the field. My team had the ball and one of my teammates kicked it to another teammate to begin the game. Soon enough, the ball was passed to me and I began to make my way down the field to the goal. I set my sights on the net and my foot collided with the ball. The ball sored through the air right over the goal. I scolded myself as I walked back to my position on the field ready to try again. This occurred about five times during the entire game and each time I would lose a little more hope that I would make a

My Last Soccer Game It was the morning of my last soccer game of the season. I still haven't made my first goal yet so I was determined to that day. As I got out of my car walked through the grass to get to my team and start stretching to prepare for our last game, the smell of wet grass hit me in the face. My soccer cleats began to get wet and sink into the wet muddy grass as I walked.…

From the time I was six years old, soccer consumed my life. I started at a recreational level, advanced to a competitive division, and eventually on to high school. I’ve put countless hours into learning the game. I never thought my soccer career would include coaching until one summer when two friends and I signed up to coach a recreational soccer team of nine year-old girls. Initially, I thought it would be a cakewalk, my previous coaches managed my teammates and I with ease.…

“Hi Malcolm, I’m Coach Spear, and I’d like you to consider playing soccer at Davidson.” I had played the “beautiful” game of soccer for as long as I could remember, starting in an organized league at the age of three to be exact. An invitation to play as a team member in a highly regarded college soccer program was the culmination of hundreds of league games, dozens of travel tournaments, and too many practices to count. The idea of attending such a prestigious college and having the opportunity to continue to play soccer is a personal accomplishment was very exciting to me. Soccer may have opened a door, but I believe that several interests in addition to soccer, combined with the educational opportunities that Davidson has to offer, will help me open many doors throughout life, shaping a personal identity that will be unique among many.…

Two defenders from the other team came at me like seagulls going for that last piece of sandwich that the little boy left at the beach. The two defenders were good, but not good enough. I could’ve easily shot the ball past the goalie and into the net, but instead I passed to one of the little girls on my team, Tessa. There were only three seconds left. She bobbled the ball and then shot…

Know your worth When I was in the 8th grade I started to hang out with the wrong crowed. When I decided that I need to change my ways it was too late. The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…
