It is what the fans long for every four years and what the players train for every day in between. The U.S. leads the most wins of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the men have only been as far as the quarterfinals. In fact, in 2015 when the U.S. Women’s soccer team defeated Japan for the World Cup Championship the team earned about 2 million dollars; while in 2014 the men’s team earned roughly around 9 million dollars just for making it in the 16th round. Which also refers back to Solo’s saying, however, it doesn’t end there. Along with the earnings comes bonuses similar to how players can earn in their exhibition games; however, the Cup earnings are divided by 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. As represented in Graph 2, for 3rd place the women are rewarded with a $20,000 bonus and the men $52,083, for 2nd place the women are rewarded with $32,500 bonus and the men $260,417, and for 1st place the women are rewarded with $75,000 bonus while the men take home an extra $390,625. Growing up being in love with sports, especially soccer, I’ve always wondered about the life of a female professional athlete. Many of my peers did also; in fact, we had the dreams of being as good as Abby Wambach one day. However, we mature, we do research, and are dreams are just dreams. Such as in this article, after reading and analyzing it is crystal clear how the athletic world works. The U.S. women’s soccer team put in the same time as the men’s and are certainly aren’t appreciated for it. Also, I am absolutely sure that the women put in more effort than the men since they have 3 FIFA World Cup Championships and four Olympic Championships in their belt while the men do not; and still the men lay over the women financially. Therefore, it is a man’s world and the females can be a part of it, but it is still their world. I believe what the U.S. women’s soccer team is doing is extraordinary, it reflects their hard work and passion for the sport.
