Soccer Loss Speech

Decent Essays
A loss stings, especially a loss for something as major as a banner. Last year the finals game was the week after zones. We were playing holy trinity as usual, and the weather was gross. We had the worst ref and everybody was pretty riled up. That was my last high school game and we lost. Sometimes I still think about what I could have done differently, even though it’s been over a year. That loss still stings and it will keep bothering me for the rest of my soccer career. Your loss will also follow you, and right now it’s probably bubbling inside you and you’re probably pretty angry and a little sad. But there will be more important games, and you may lose those too. But you may win them and you will look back on this game and realize that this loss was just one game, one little blip on the timeline of your soccer career. You’ll think of this game and remember certain plays and you will remember what you did well, and what you know you could have done better and you will grow because of it. I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of you for how you played the whole season. I want to thank you all for letting me take on a different role on the team, even though it felt very much the same. You are the oldest on the field or court, and you know that it is your responsibility to lead by example. The younger people on your team look up to you even if you don’t think they do, and you have all handled that responsibility with great finesse and

The next couple of days I was in the dumps thinking about how, if it weren't for me, our team could have been the tournament champs, and nothing anyone said would convince me that the loss was on my back. A few days later, we had practice and when I arrived no one appeared to be mad at me even the coaches. After all, I'd lost us the game and the championship, and the had to be disappointed about not having a shot at the finals.…

As I get off the bus, and stretch my legs after what seemed like a very long bus ride, I noticed a certain smell in the air. I have been here before, and each time the visits have been very uncomfortable. I love nothing more than to step on the ball field, and smell the fresh cut grass, and my kangaroo skin catchers glove. This ball field was different, for many different reasons. Playing baseball against Mountain Valley was always fun, because we always won.…

I felt that all my hoped and dreams in this world had been crushed by one decision. Soon after the first Junior Varsity practice I was no longer upset but motivated. This year I changed my mindset from losing to be improving each day. I put so much time and effort into a sport that I love and was going to play with as much heart as possible.…

Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…
