According to the Cambridge Dictionaries Online, soccer is defined as a "game played between two teams of eleven people, where each team tries to win by kicking a ball into the other team's goal". Moreover, it is considered to be an extremely widespread sport as it is estimated that around 715.1 million people watched the FIFA World Cup final match in Germany last year ("FIFA.com - FIFA World Cup™," n.d.), which only stands to prove how well liked the games are. The sport stands to emphasize national identity, as some games require national representations.

However, the tournaments were still hard to have, because there were different rules wherever you were since a book of guidelines being was yet to be established. This problem lead an English man by the name of Ebenezer Morley to meet up with founders of football clubs and agree on an official rulebook that will govern the games. Even though the rulebook changed overtime to accommodate better options, it is still widely known that Morley founded the first soccer rulebook (Simkin, 1997).
