Soccer Discourse Community

A discourse community is a certain group a person is a part of that has specific rules, way of communication, language, etc. I am a part of many discourse communities, but soccer is the only discourse community, I feel completely belonged to and it’s the most important discourse community for me. This discourse community reveals a lot about me as a person, and I want to explore how, or if, my behavior changes in this community. I also want to see if I am performing when my behavior changes, how these community influence me, and how it portray my understanding of home and where I come from.
Growing up I didn’t have any friends besides my soccer mates because I was too shy and quiet. The soccer discourse community shows that I am very community oriented. I am focused on being a good player; the soccer team I’m in is a great team where players who want to learn and become better athletes surround me. I also tend to be a teamwork player because soccer is an activity that emphasizes teamwork.
I don’t feel that my behavior changes substantially when I enter or exit the soccer community. One small thing that changes when I enter or exit the soccer community is my language; simply because players communicate differently in this community. Obviously, my soccer mates and soccer environment growing up helped shape me into the person I am today. The fact that I went to Spain during the summers and on holidays throughout my childhood is what raised my interest in soccer and its environment. The soccer community has helped me grow as a person.
