Breathing rapidly in the icy cold air, rain dripping down my face but I barely notice. Goosebumps begin to appear on my arms as the anticipation intensifies. Then suddenly, almost without warning the whistle blows. This loud familiar sound lingers in the air around me. There is an odd calmness that comes after the first whistle blows, it’s a sigh of relief. Everything else that was once on my mind has vanished. I am here and I am present. Most of my life has been experienced here, on a soccer field. Being an athlete has always made me an insider, this is due to the stereotypical popularity of athletes. I began playing soccer when I was five and it has just kind of stuck with me every since. I'm in no way a soccer star, I'm average at best. But being the best had never been what attracted me to soccer, it is the players and coaches and friends that I have met, connected with and have impacted me that make me want to continue playing. It consisted of about eighteen girls from all over; Yelm, Olympia, Shelton, Tumwater. I met these girls at a crucial point in my life, like I said before I was extremely shy when I was younger but these seventeen strangers helped me come out of my shell. A lot of my self confidence and personality was developed during the period I spent playing with this team. I began to actually have my own opinions and sense of humor because I wasn't too shy to say what I thought anymore. This team made me feel like a part of something, like an insider. So then I actually became one. We spent four years and millions of hours of hours together. There was never a certain point when it was like, oh we're friends now, but somehow we became friends. Not all of us were best friends but we all got along. I know all of these girls still, five years later and I know I could call any of them for anything and they would support me even though it has been years since we were all
