1) Homo economicus is a theoretical concept that frames humans as rational and self-interested individuals. A homo economicus must have the ability to recognize its own self-interest, and in turn act upon that self-interest. Economists have traditionally used the concept to describe a rational individual who quantifies their self-interest while enjoying true economic freedom. Coase explains that if one party’s actions negatively effect a second party’s actions, the common question asked is how should we prevent the first
party from carrying out those actions? Yet, Coase explains we are asking the wrong question. A fundamental concept not only to free-markets but to much of human interaction is that of self-interest; or, as Adam Smith refers to it in his work "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" (1759): "self-love". Selfishness is also an important concept that must be differentiated and expressed in terms so as to not confuse the two as if they are purely derived from and interchangeable to one another. It is essential for the government to have this type of ideological role in people’s lives as it allows them intervene in order to smooth out the inevitable inequality of the economy (Maddison and Denniss 2009,…

Adam Smith was an economist from the mid-late 1700’s and he was able to explain the knowledge of Capitalism; elaborating on how to make money from the free markets that was influential to survival at that time. He wrote a book, An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, which describes the origins of Capitalism in great details with petty examples of this logic set in motion. There is a stark…
