As analysts of Soap n Suds, a manufacturer for laundry soaps, we have been hired to compare the latest versions of Windows, Mac and Linux. Our job is to find the best operating system for their computers-which run an early version of Windows- to upgrade to. In this case study, we will be analyzing the cost of the operating systems,the memory and storage requirements, requirements for upgrade,training costs, protection against spyware or viruses, which operating system’s interface is easier to navigate and whether or not the latest version of Microsoft Office can run with the operating system. The results of our research can be seen below.
The initial cost of the Microsoft windows 10 pro would sell at 199 and the windows 10 will cost 119. After running the system and the users upgrades from home edition to pro they will then require to pay $99 to upgrade to windows pro pack. Compared to the mac OS X at initial retail price of 129. Mac unfortunately hold this requirement. Linux and Windows do not. However, Windows is a little tricky with their requirements. Windows 10 is free for those devices that run Windows 8 and 7. Yet, according to the Windows FAQ, “The free upgrade offer isn 't available for devices running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Enterprise editions of Windows.”. This proves to be a problem because the company’s computers run Windows XP. If the company wanted to upgrade to Windows 10, they would either have to purchase Windows 8 and procure the free upgrade or replace their desktops with devices that have Windows 10 already downloaded. The third and most unfavorable option would occur if the company decided to wait until the free upgrade was no longer available.
