So Much Wrong In America Today: Can One Get Better?

Decent Essays
With so much wrong in America today, I believe that it can only get better. Because many veterans struggle when they return from war, they will be provided with a variety of programs to help them deal with life after war. Shootings and other gun accidents will go down immensely, especially school shootings. People will not be living on the streets and go to bed hungry. Cars will be made cheaper and more efficient. I foresee changes like these in America’s future.
When soldiers come back to America nothing is guaranteed for them. They come back injured and in no condition to work. Then when they come home they won’t be so depressed and wouldn’t feel out of place. Right now when they do come back, they have to resume their old life. Because

Contrarily, the start up of another Soldiers’ Aid Society does not convince me needed changes would occur, either. Frazier’s ideas of helping the country through more civil work are admirable, nevertheless unhealthy, for the common people. While a larger military would be of the country’s benefit, I believe that only the citizens who feel compelled to join the military, and other civil services, would be of immense aid to our nation. The government presumably downsized the aftermath of 9/11, leaving American citizens sheltered from brutal reality. In coincidence with threats of future terrorist attacks, the crashing economy potentially forced the government to seek a way to make up for the aftermath of 9/11 in a way that didn’t frighten citizens more than they already had been.…

World War II is frequently labeled the ‘Good War,’ as it is characterized as one of the few wars in history that is justified by a majority of the world. Throughout the entirety of the war, the Allied forces worked to defeat the nefarious Axis powers. Paul Fussell’s book The Boys’ Crusades exhibits the truth about World War II, and it shows the harsh reality of combat. Young servicemen in America risked their lives in battle, and while they are respected for their work, few people understand the brutality they endure. The Boys’ Crusades argues that the brutality of war must be understood by the public, and as a result of the harshness of combat, World War II cannot be classified as the ‘Good War.’…

The United States of America has been at war since 2001. The two campaigns are known as Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraq Freedom. Since the beginning, there has been over 1.5 million troops deployed to the region (Savitsky, Illingsworth, & Dulaney, 2009). It does not matter what the job is, the chances that a soldier will experience a form of trauma is almost guaranteed. It was no different for Lieutenant Commander Heidi Kraft.…

The general purpose of this speech was to draw attention to our societal isolation, and how we don’t do enough to promote positive mental health. Mr. Junger talks about the horrors of war, and the toll it takes on veterans. He talks about PTSD and the mental health of these veterans. He then talks about how these veterans return to the U.S., and find themselves isolated and alone. He uses examples of how bad veteran suicide is here, and contrasts that with the Navajo warriors and Israeli soldiers.…

Often time, wars are believed and seen as a mean to defend the home nation from physical catastrophe of foreign land and soldiers are praised and honored for their sacrifice. Not often enough do the common people take the time to scrape the surface with sayings like “thank you for your time” to look at the understanding that even though a war “makes men” and unites them, Hynes says that it isolates and cuts them off from other people. We are also controlled into believing that we understand exactly how a soldier feels from what the media broadcast to us, and then we take that false understanding and channels it to a way that we think may help soldiers deal with their traumas or past. The truth that the media provide has been filtered out enough…

Overview Everyone in America talks about the American dream; a big house with a great family and a white picket fence in the yard. For others, the American dream is to never have an empty stomach, it’s a place other than the cold and dirty concrete, it’s where people can shower more than once a week. The American dream isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be for some. There are people that go day after day barely surviving.…

In society, we tend to see tremendous families loosing a loved one due to war. Some of those incidences that occur to soldiers at war, tend to be harsh and unforgettable. In the book, Zinky boys, by Svetlana Alexievich, the author shows how her project of gathering interviews from people that lost a loved one at war, made it possible for her to express the idea of loss in different aspects from people’s voices. Alexievich was from Belarus, who wrote in Russia how the voices from the Afghanistan and Soviet soldiers expressed their views towards their motherland and what the real truth was from their opinion. The main point of Alexievich’s project is to explore lives of veterans and their opinion about the war.…

A person from the very beginning of his/her life is a part of something, a family, a nation, a race, a community etc. it is such a natural thing that people never realize how important the knowledge of the fact that they’re a part of something is. Mostly because the absence of it is fate to very few types of people and most commonly these people are soldiers. This problem is presented, as one of the issues the soldiers have to deal with, in a war novel “The Things They Carried” written by Tim O’Brien. He presents few cases where characters had to deal with this problem.…

I have given a lot of thought to how I (and other people) can improve and change American life. One of the best ways I can think of to improve American life is to return to a staple of American life that has sharply declined in the last few decades- the civic organization. Civic organizations have been a bedrock of American life. Organizations like Rotary Clubs, the American Legion, Parent Teacher Organizations, religious organizations and the like have been responsible for many important improvements in the communities they are a part of. They have taking on the task of organizing vital tasks like maintaining common spaces, community celebrations and even disaster relief.…
