In the book, Heidi gives Bernie a map to help Bernie know where Heidi is during the trip to Liberty, New York, and Bernie gives Heidi the red sweater that Heidi’s grandmother had worn. In the movie, Bernie has a globe to help her know where Heidi is, but it doesn’t show that Heidi gave it to Bernie. Also, Bernie never gave Heidi the red sweater to have with her. In the movie, Mama died of a heart attack, and in the book, Mama died in her sleep. In the book, Heidi tells Bernie that she is leaving to Liberty, but in the movie, Heidi doesn’t tell anyone.
