Snowflake Generation Definition

The term “Snowflake Generation”, especially in the present day, is thrown around in heaps on Youtube video comments, Facebook comments, article comments, and just about anywhere someone can voice their opinions. The definition of Snowflake Generation, is “the generation of people who became adults in the 2010s, viewed as being less resilient and more prone to taking offence than previous generations,” According to the Collins English Dictionary. The modern usage and definition of Snowflake Generation is very ironic. First, The modern definition is different than the original. Secondly, even if you wanted to go with the modern definition the group of people that it is aimed at do not always fit that definition. In Fact, it is mostly the other way around in my eyes. The first time someone was referred to as a “snowflake” is believed to have been in a line from the 1996 movie, Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club. “You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same organic and decaying matter as everyone else” (Nicholson 2016). To me it sounds like someone who was raised thinking they were special. They aim the insult at millennials because they have a misconception that they are too sensitive because they find offence in controversial words, and actions. But technically when you think about it the baby boomers use this as a way to cope with the social changes around them. Back in the day people could almost say and do anything they wanted without worrying about some of the repercussions. Nowadays, younger people and minorities don’t accept that and people are being called out on their offensive behavior. When that happens they reflect it back by saying they are too sensitive and it wasn’t like this back in the
