Topic: Discuss the character of the father. Parents often impose restrictions to monitor the behaviour of their children. Some tries to impose their principles and values to their children because of their own experiences. The tone of the story Snow by Ann Beattie was very miscellaneous. Why I find this story miscellaneous is because there were different perspective put in each paragraph which not only made it complex but a little jumbled. The story talks about a house in which they lived in and tells us how big of an impact it was on their lives. We start off the story at house where they just start re decorating and tells us about how people would visit them and try and tell them about their memories while sitting near the fireplace. In the second paragraph we have a switch of perspectives and are told about how people were just telling stories near the fireplace with moonlight shining in the sky and how the squirrel ran back into the dark.…

The archetypal theme of selling your soul to the devil has been in practice for centuries back. The willingness for someone to sell their soul in exchange for something they desire or what they most want in life and not always do they have another choice and that’s when they decide to not work for what they want and go the easy way to having fame, power, revenge and beauty. Both Tom Walker from “The Devil and Tom Walker” and Queen Ravenna from “Snow White and the Huntsmen” thought they had no other way and chose to sell their soul to the devil but ended up worse than how they were in the beginning and alone with nothing or nobody by their side. Foremost, Tom Walker was a very greedy man who didn’t care about anyone but himself, not even his wife who he was married for years now, yet there was no love nor affection from both of them.…
The sexualization of female characters still play a prominent role in the media. That women will always be the main subject of beauty. Some feminists might argue that women should embrace their beauty, which is a good idea. However, it is quite difficult to do so when the beauty standards are ridiculously high. By comparing these brief summarize of the two tales, it is apparent that in the Grimm’s version, Snow White’s beauty portrays her as naïve and thoughtless, (easily accepting the apple from the “elder woman”), often seen as a sign of weakness.…
In Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretations of Dreams, he spoke of the Oedipus Rex, which is also known as the Oedipus complex. Where in most cases the son kills off the father in order to marry and get with the mother (Freud, 816). Freud believes that all men have these desires in their id but their superego ends up compressing these thoughts. The reason for this is because society rejects these impulses and so we must learn control our urges. Notice how, in the last sentence instead of placing a specific gender the use of “we” is in place, the reason for this is because it goes for both gender.…
