“Halfpipe is an event where athletes perform jumps, rotations and twists in the air as they glide criss-crossing a semi-circular ramp. Halfpipe consists of a qualification and final round. 30 riders will compete in the men's competition and 24 riders will compete in the women's competition. The qualification will consist of two runs and each competitor's best single run will count toward advancement. The top 12 riders will advance to the final round, where each athlete will perform three runs and use their best run to determine the medalists”(2018 Winter olympics rookie guide snowboarding). “Three main styles of competition exist: Alpine, freestyle, and boardercross. Alpine events are timed and contain gates around which snowboarders must maneuver. 3, 1986, in San Diego, Calif., White grew up in nearby Carlsbad. He survived a heart defect that required two operations when he was an infant. Despite his early health problems, he was soon skateboarding, surfing, skiing, and playing soccer (association football). He took up snowboarding at age six and the next year won his first competition. He became a phenomenon on the amateur circuit, claiming five national titles, and turned professional at 13. After making his Winter X Games debut in 2000, he went on to rack up five slopestyle titles (2003–06, 2009) as well as five superpipe titles (2003, 2006, 2008–10)”(Shaun White). Us snowboarder Shaun White is arguably the greatest freestyle snowboarder of all time. Pushing the boundaries of his event, the halfpipe, into new territory, his outlandish moves have become the “gold-standard”. White won his first two Olympic halfpipe golds in Turin and Vancouver, yet failed to make it a hat-trick at Sochi 2014, where an uncharacteristically sub-par performance in the final cost him a medal. Now back to his brilliant best, he has his sights set on redemption in Pyeongchang”(Olympics | Rio 2016 Schedule ). Equally important, “Sandbech was just eight when he was given his first snowboard for Christmas. It soon became his passion. The young Norwegian tried his hand at all the discipline’s events, developing the style that has made him instantly recognisable on the slopes.has taken inspiration from his older brother, Frode,
