Throughout life, we fall into circumstances where we had an outside influence from others stating what to do, and we decided not to adhere to the advice given to us. No matter how hard one tries to get something done on their own, in certain circumstances, it is a necessity to trust the wisdom and the words of others. Different experiences within life may guide us towards gaining wisdom. We cannot base every situation that we encountered with past experiences. Every situation may not have the same outcome as one from the past. Always keep an open mind take a look at the advice given to by other. Even though the dog tries to warn him, the hiker chooses to be arrogant and overconfident and allows these attributes to sway his judgment. He seems to need to prove to himself that he does not need help from any person or animal. Due to his lack of trust, he forces the dog to walk ahead, and that causes a series of disasters and revelations. Because of his lack of better judgment, he stepped on a thin layer of ice and fell through. His instinct was to build a fire to get warm and dry to prevent permanent injury to his lower extremities. He also regretted not having his nose strap to protect his face from the elements, but he still was not as concerned, “it didn’t matter much, after all. What are frosted cheeks? A bit painful, that was all; they were never serious.” Anyone with common sense might believe that he would go back to seek help before he gets any worse.
