Snowball: A Short Story

I was calm and concentrating on the ball, This was the second playoff game and we needed to win it. I heard my coach on the sideline executing a split decision that was a good gamble, He was calling my blitz. When you’re positioned at the defensive end there’s nothing more exciting than a blitz for you, rushing to the backfield before the quarterback is able to figure out where the receivers are. This felt different and it was different. The ball is hiked, I'm bulldozing my way to the backfield and I see the quarterback's eyes. Ready for a pass, but where? “PASS!” hollered everyone including all the parents, I spotted the ball. I swatted it mid-air and it was on the ground, I was hesitating. I didn’t realize exactly what i did until my teammates

Many people think of snow as a break or a time off work. Other people think of snow as a horrible time where you have to be stuck inside, however not many people don’t think of snow as danger. In Trapped Michael Northrop writes about how the protagonist, Scotty, and 6 other kids are stuck in a high school during a blizzard in Massachusetts. All they can see in the distance is endless snow. In Trapped Northrop uses the snow to symbolize danger, because it killed a teacher it trapped the kids, and destroyed many things, putting the kids in danger.…

“Clock it, clock it, clock it, I yelled once again, we lined up quickly and I attempted to clock the ball. The problem was I bobbled the snap and took a step back before spiking it. I was called for intentional grounding and the ball was spotted at the six yard line for our next play. Next we used our last time out since there were only 3.7 seconds left on the clock. “What do you think Nick, do we dare run a slant corner to Derek” coach Morris asked.…

As the assignment requires we write an annotated bibliography of a newspaper article, and since an annotated bibliography requires in-depth knowledge on the subject, I knew exactly which article to write about. This past April I performed with Shakespeare Carolina in their production of The Winter’s Tale; we received a sparkling review from Charlotte’s toughest critic, Perry Tannenbaum. Since this was such a joyous occasion for the entire cast, I knew it would be fitting to annotate this review for my assignment, as I can use my personal connection with the article to truly illustrate the content. First, I pulled the newspaper from my personal records and read it once again in order to remind myself of every detail of the article. I then critically…

My hands gripped my lacrosse stick tightly and my eyes stared at the ball, which was trapped between two girls. I waited. I waited for the whistle to sound and the ball to fly in the air, the yellow of it vanishing into the sun. I was ready. I could hear the steady breathing of the girl next to me and the beating of my heart.…

I had just entered my junior year in high school and was back to playing football, my grades were good so far and my A.D.D. medication was helping me a lot. Zach and I had just arrived at the union school for a junior varsity game against Oceanside high school, we geared up and got ready for the game. I started the game at quarterback and the game wasn't going well for us, which didn't come as a surprise because jv games are never enjoyable. I took the snap and rolled out to the left side of the field, no one was open so I tucked the ball under my arm and started to run up field, I had room to move, suddenly a linebacker running at me from my side started to shorten up his steps and set himself for a tackle, he tackled low but I…

Looking back on these days they were tough. Every night before practice was over we ran killers and I also had to review plays for my new position as running back. To put this game in my eyes this was huge if you were to ask another player they would have said differently. If we were to win this game this would help us forget our last season with a losing record of 1-7 and I think this helped motivate me for this game. This has been rolling over and over in my mind for the past couple days and I half to admit I was pretty pumped and ready…

It was a brisk fall evening with the sun just about to set behind a hill. I was 10 years old, playing in my third season of football, and my first ever game under the bright lights surrounding the high school stadium. The time had finally come, the lights had been on and warming up for several minutes, I was going to play a game under the lights on the high school field. My experiences that night were not forgotten, but today I couldn’t even tell you if we won the game that night. The lessons I learned that night weren’t about winning and losing, I had done plenty of that already in my life.…
